A Literary Odyssey: Tackling the 1001 Books to Read Before You Die List

Hello. My name is Kaisha and I am addicted to literature.

In the words of George R. R. Martin:

“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies...The man who never reads lives only one.”

Since reading the likes of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Charlotte's Web, I have been addicted to how literary can draw you in, can provide you with more experiences outside of your own ideological impulses, can shed light on worlds and people that you will never have the privilege to comprehend for yourself personally.

I studied English Literature at both an undergraduate and postgraduate level and I adored discussing and debating the written word with others. So I have decided to pick up the mantle again and try my hand at the 1001 Books to Read Before You Die list.

The concept is simple - read all of the books on the list. It sounds easy enough, but 1001 Books is a pretty daunting prospect. I'm excited about it though. So I'll be making my way through this long list and I will be posting reviews after finishing each text. My aim is to read at least two books from the list per month. It would be great to hear what you think of the books once I've posted - have you read them yourselves, did you enjoy them, do you agree with my perspective? Let's get bookish conversations flowing!

So wish me luck and let's begin....
